WHAT IS Contrology?

Contrology is a corrective exercise method that improves strength, flexibility, balance, and posture when practiced regularly. Some of the benefits you can expect from practicing Joseph Pilates work are:

1. Improve core strength: Contrology is known for its focus on developing a strong and stable core. The exercises target the deep muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and hips, which can help improve your posture and reduce back pain.

2. Healthy joints: Contrology involves learning to use the muscles for healthier joint movement. This can help reduce the risk of injury and enhance athletic performance.

3. Improve balance: Contrology exercises require you to maintain proper alignment, which can improve your balance and stability. This can help reduce your risk of falls, especially in older adults.

4. Reduce stress: Contrology incorporates breathing techniques and mindfulness as we move, which can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. This can be especially helpful for people who suffer from anxiety or depression.

5. Better posture: Contrology strengthens the muscles that support the spine, improving posture and reducing the risk of developing pain in the body.

Why WE CALL IT CONTROLOGY

At Aligned Pilates, we respect the work of the man who made Contrology. His last name was Pilates, and he called his method of corrective exercise Contrology. These days, there are many iterations of Joseph Pilates' work, and Aligned Pilates is where you come to learn how to practice Contrology. Mr. Pilates was firm in his instructions that with proper repetition of his exercises, a person will gradually and progressively develop a strong and vital body for this day and age. The consistent practice of Contrology produces a natural rhythm and coordination within the body to the point where the movement becomes second nature—learning to move efficiently and avoid pain is the product of our hard work.

Joseph Pilates believed that the body would RETURN TO LIFE through the exercise method, which he called CONTROLOGY.
